Polyethylene must be cross-linked in order to meet wire and cable temperature performance specifications. There are only three commercial ways to cross link polyethylene: peroxide, radiation, and the most recently developed method that uses water. The water method is the method of choice for most new installations because cost of operation is often less than the popular CV (continuous vulcanizing) technology widely practiced in the USA.
