Demand for higher quality rod/wire products necessitates an advance and practical wire failure classification technique. This paper presents a classification methodology based on rod and wire manufacturing process parameters, rather than the conventional approach that rely on the appearance of the failed wire tip. The methodology considers the impact of both segments of the industry: The rod producing and the wire drawing operation. As the basis for classification, a description of the involved process parameters, with emphasis on drawability is provided.
