Physical and electrical properties of copper wire are measured in terms of springback, conductivity, surface smoothness, elongation, freedom from dust, conductivity, etc. The wire’s color has no effect on its properties. However, time and again wire manufacturers have complained of a difference in color between drawn copper wires of different lots. Rod producers do not have a satisfactory answer to the problem of dark wire. Previous research on this topic has focused primarily on the drawing lubricant quality and factors like oxide and completeness of pickling. In this paper the effect of a hitherto unsuspected parameter has been investigated and an effort has been made to understand the phenomenon.
