Few successful attempts have been made to optimize heat transfer in the copper melting shaft furnace since its development in the early 1960s. Encore Wire, Ltd. The efficiency of one 25-foot tall vertical shaft furnace has been successfully increased by using a combination of cyclonic burners, innovative cathode charging techniques, and strategic scrap charging methods. Now this relatively short furnace operates with a thermal efficiency that rivals the tallest copper melting furnaces in the world.
