Description

By Roger N. Wright, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA
2007

Aging, through carbon-dislocation interactions, can strengthen steel wire, both statically and dynamically (strain aging). The sensitivity of aging to temperature and strain rate complicates process analysis and control of as-processed properties. This paper discusses basic metallurgical issues, along with applications to wiredrawing analysis, re-enforcing wire, and wire forming.
