This paper traces several decades of research and development at Taskentcable, a former Soviet company that bought one of the two Properzi lines on which the first continuous copper rod was produced from 1964 to 1965. It presents the latest achievements and present technological challenges such as trolley wire production, new copper alloy rod, and FRHC rod from 100% third class scrap. It will also cover the new COSMELT process through the continuous melting, pyrometallurgical refining, and continuous casting of copper scrap.
