By Roger WrightTotal running time: 1 hr., 22 min.Part 1: Basic Mechanics of Drawing (46 min.)
Part 1 reviews the basic mechanical theory of wiredrawing. Practical applications are discussed, and illustrative calculations are presented. Implications for die and pass schedule design are considered.
Part 2 reviews the effects of line speed on wiredrawing with particular attention to temperature and lubricant response. Wire quality implications are considered, including the nature of the surface, metallurgical structure and mechanical properties.
A longtime presenter of WAI seminars and technical papers, Professor Roger Wright has given approximately 70 public lectures at major wire industry symposia, meetings, and seminars. After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Wright conducted wire and strip processing research for six years at Allegheny Ludlum and Westinghouse before joining Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1974. He is widely active as a consultant on metalworking and failure analysis.
