When exceeding the classically known strength levels, sufficient torsional ductility becomes one of the utmost critical material requirements for a sound processability of steel cord filaments into cords.Torque-angle curves have proven to be an excellent tool in monitoring torsion properties and in understanding torsion failure phenomena. Some of the more important findings from an intensive study of wires of several diameters, such as effect of strength, of testing lengths and of some processing conditions on delamination sensitivity will be discussed.
