The objective of simulating the stelmor process is to determine the best combination of steel chemistry and cooling rates to produce a defect-free rod with improved mechanical properties.The cooling cycle produced by two water boxes and a stelmore conveyor was simulated on rod samples in the laboratory.Similar to the practice in a rod mill, the two process parameters controlled in the experiments are the water box cooling rate (laying head temperature) and the stelmor air-blow cooling rate (5 to 10 deg.C/s).
