Electromagnetic nondestructive inspection is widely used for trading nonferrous rod and wire quality. This paper discusses two individual inspections done with a single non-contact encircling coil: eddy current flaw detection and ferrous inclusion detection. The former method checks the outer rod or wire circumference for cracks, surface condition and other defects on or near the surface, while the latter detects ferrous particles typically imbedded in the rod/wire.
