Mitsubishi Materials has developed a new method for lowering the oxygen content of the copper melt. Using a conventional shaft furnace and by controlling the combustion gases, the oxygen content of SCR wire rod has been successfully reduced to 10 ppm or lower. The new ROX process has been developed to control combustion gases and deoxidize the melt, resulting in a copper wire rod with an oxygen content of 10 ppm or lower.
