This paper addresses austenitic stainless steels and nickel-base alloys. Basic flow stress estimation methods are reviewed and extended to the well-documented case of AISI 304 stainless steel. Similar approaches are examined for the less well-documented cases of several nickel-base materials. The feasibility of a general equation for these alloys, requiring only a standard tensile test for indexing, is examined.
