The strain aging of a pearlitic steel wire rod prestrained in tension was studied, aiming to compare the characteristics of the phenomenon with those of strain aging in drawn pearlitic steels. It was observed that, between 100°C and 175°C, strain aging after prestraining in tension is also governed by the decomposition of cementite. The results obtained are discussed in terms of the structure of deformed pearlite.
