The reduction of coating weight with the progress of drawing is the limiting factor to higher drawing speeds and drawing limits in the continuous drawing of steel wire. To cope with this problem, the authors have developed a new drawing technique in which borax coating is applied to the wire surface immediately after the die exit. This paper describes the experimental results of the effect of this technique and discusses the reason for improved drawability.
